Alameda Release and ICE Custody

An immigration question can appear during or after an Alameda County jail release, but that does not make ICE ODLS an Alameda County jail archive. Santa Rita Jail is the active county detention facility. A person released from Santa Rita Jail to the community should be confirmed through the Alameda County Sheriff's release record, Alameda Superior Court, California VINE if a notification was registered, and any probation or supervision records that apply. A person transferred to or later held by ICE must be checked through federal immigration-custody channels.

The research did not identify an active civil ICE detention facility in Alameda County. ICE custody, when it applies, is a separate federal pathway. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System is for adults currently in ICE custody or people in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. USA.gov explains that ODLS can be searched by A-number and country of birth, or by name, country of birth, and date of birth. That coverage is current or recent federal immigration custody, not a complete history of Alameda jail releases.

Alameda TRUTH Act and California Values Act materials are relevant because they frame notice, transparency, detainers, and cooperation limits. They should not be turned into a prediction that a specific person will or will not be transferred. The accurate question is narrower: what does the Sheriff's release or transfer record say, what does the court case show, and does ICE ODLS identify the person as currently in ICE custody under its display rules?

Confirm an ICE-Related Release

Use two tracks. First confirm the Alameda County jail event. Then confirm whether ICE custody exists. A person can be released from Santa Rita Jail without being in ICE custody, or released from county custody into another agency path. One database does not answer both questions.

1. Search the Alameda County Inmate Locator if the jail release may still be processing. Pending release means administrative release processing has begun, may take several hours, and can be stopped by another legal holding authority.
2. Request the Sheriff's booking and release record if you need the exact release date, release time, manner or reason, and whether the record shows a transfer or hold.
3. Check Alameda Superior Court for the local case disposition, release order, custody credits, warrant status, PRCS, probation, or future hearing dates. The court record can explain the local legal basis for release.
4. Use California VINE if a custody notification was registered or if the person remains searchable in a participating county feed. Treat it as status confirmation, not the full release record.
5. If ICE custody is the question, search ICE ODLS by A-number and country of birth when available. If no A-number is available, use name, country of birth, and date of birth.
6. If ODLS does not show a match, do not assume the Alameda release did or did not involve immigration custody. ODLS has its own coverage limits. Use records, counsel, immigration court, or agency channels where appropriate.

Use Santa Rita Jail for the Alameda county-custody release event. Use U.S. Marshals / Federal Pretrial Custody for federal criminal custody. Use this page only for immigration-custody routing and the separation between a local jail release and ICE custody.

ICE Pathway Records and Contact

This page has a pathway card rather than a local facility card because no active Alameda civil ICE detention facility was identified in the official sources reviewed. The contact route depends on which record you need. A Sheriff's release or transfer record belongs to Alameda County. A criminal case record belongs to Alameda Superior Court or federal court, depending on the case. ICE custody status belongs to ICE ODLS and other federal immigration channels.

For a county records request, ask for the disclosable booking and release record from Santa Rita Jail and include any specific transfer or hold field you need. Do not ask the Sheriff's Office to produce a full ICE file. For immigration custody, use ICE tools and the appropriate immigration record channels. For a local court order, use Alameda Superior Court's criminal record request process. For a federal criminal order, use federal court records.

About the ICE Pathway

ICE custody is a federal civil immigration custody path that can intersect with local jail release but is not the same as release from Alameda County custody. A person may leave Santa Rita Jail to the community, may be transferred to another law-enforcement agency, may have a federal issue, or may later be in immigration custody. The Sheriff's record should document the local release or transfer event when disclosable. ICE ODLS is the locator to check only if the person is believed to be in ICE custody or within the ODLS coverage described by ICE and USA.gov.

The Alameda County release record should be read for the time and manner of release, holding location, transfer, and detainer information when available and disclosable. Government Code section 7923.610 identifies release time and manner or current holding location as public arrest information subject to stated limits. That public-record concept helps with the county side of the question. It does not make ICE's federal records part of the county jail file.

TRUTH Act Context

Alameda's immigration-release angle should be handled through transparency and record separation. TRUTH Act materials address notice and communication issues around immigration detainers and agency contact. California Values Act limits also affect cooperation. Those rules are context for asking better record questions, not a substitute for verifying a particular release. The individual record still matters: a pending-release status can change, a hold can stop release, and a completed release can lead to the community or another custody path depending on the actual order or transfer.

California VINE, Alameda Probation, CDCR, BOP, and ICE each answer different questions. VINE can show custody-status notifications for participating systems. Probation can explain PRCS, mandatory supervision, pretrial monitoring, or felony probation. CDCR handles state prison. BOP handles sentenced federal custody. ICE ODLS handles current ICE custody under federal immigration rules. Keeping those channels separate is the most accurate way to research an Alameda release with an immigration question.
